I. INTRODUCTION
This is an older version of the AstroMart software which I
have decided to release as shareware on the international
market. The Langway company reserves all rights concerning
this program, but will allow this specific version to be
copied and distributed freely and without charge.
It is forbidden to modify or translate this version of
AstroMart software and its files. It must be distributed with
all its files.
For those who desire a more complete and powerful Astrology
software, the Langway company licenses to registered users the
latest version of AstroMart. A Window(Tm) version will be
released in April, 1992. See the readme.doc file for complete
information.
The Langway Company makes no promises nor gives any guarantee
concerning the contents of this document or this software and
specifically denies any implicit guarantee concerning its
commercial qualities or its use for any particular purpose.

AstroMart
ASTROMART is a complete software for calculating an
astrological chart.
The ASTROMART program was created in response to the demand of
astrologers. Indeed, currently, all confirmed astrologers use
a computer to calculate the ephemeris. The ASTROMART program
responds perfectly to the needs of the astrologer for working
out the astral charts.
It is equally addressed to astrology students, and to all
those who are interested in this science. Indeed, a chart
analysis is included in the software. We would advise
beginners, however, to consult other more specifically
teaching books on the subject.
ASTROMART allows you to enter the details of the person to be
studied for the calculation of his or her astral chart, and
calculates the position of the planets at the time of birth as
well as the position of the astrological houses and aspects.
Astromart User's Manual page 3
Version 3.2 of ASTROMART displays the graphic daisy-wheel
birth chart and other graphs for comparisons, transits, the
progression of planets, and more. Thanks to ASTROMART, it is
no longer necessary to calculate manually transits, solar
revolutions, or comparisons.
ASTROMART keeps a file of the people whose chart you wish to
study, safeguards it for you, deletes the charts if you so
desire, modifies them if there is an error, and, of course,
allows you to print some or all of the data.
ASTROMART lets you to select the parameters for the printer
and the style of printing.
We strongly urge you to register with Langway and receive the
latest version. Even if you do not wish to receive the latest
version at the moment, register (free of charge) in any case,
as updates and improvements are continuously added to the
program, and people registered with Langway are systematically
notified.
The AstroMart program was written by F. Burns.

II. HOW TO RUN ASTROMART
1. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
1.1 Installation
The 'Files=' statement in the CONFIG.SYS configuration file
must be set to at least 'Files=20'.
Switch on the computer.
Go to drive A by typing:
C> a:<ENTER>
If you have a hard disk type "install"; otherwise type
"astro".
A> install<ENTER>
or
A> astro<ENTER>
If your computer has 5"1/4 drives, you can make a start-up
diskette containing just the program file (astro.exe), and a
work diskette containing all the other files.
If your computer has two 5"1/4 drives, put the program
diskette into drive B: and the work diskette into drive A.
Type:
A> b:astro<ENTER>
Start up
The graph is displayed. Check that it is correct.
Press any key to continue.
Select the fourth menu, which is called OPTIONS, by using the
right arrow key --> three times.
When you press the down arrow, a sub-menu will appear: if the
graph is not correct, select the GRAPHICS option, which lets
you change several things: the size, colour or black and white
screen, the display of the chart with abbreviations or
symbols, etc. Press <ENTER> to confirm each option or <ESC>
to abandon and to return to the OPTIONS menu.
Select the MARGINS - PAGE option in the OPTIONS menu to modify
the paper specifications for the printer, if necessary.
Astromart User's Manual page 5
The left and right margins and the page width are in standard
10 cpi characters. The top margin and the page length are in
1/6" printable lines. Some printers cannot print on the whole
page, and thus there are default top and bottom margins of 3
or 4 lines. For A4 letter stationery in such printers, the
appropriate value for the page length is: 70-2*3 = 64 (maybe
63 or 62).
Select the PRINTER option in the OPTIONS menu in order to
select the right printer. If your printer is not mentioned,
try one of the first IBM or Epson generic printers.
Now, everything is ready to start up ASTROMART.
1.2 Definitions
Cursor: a different colour or flashing block which indicates
the place on the screen where the next input or modification
will occur.
Main chart: the main chart is the displayed chart when you are
in the menu. Almost all the operations affect exclusively the
main chart; take care when modifying or deleting.
Menu: a menu is a group of logical options between which you
can move.
Option: you can select a single option in the menu by using
the up and down arrows, and then pressing the <ENTER> key.
Field: a box on the screen where you can enter data. There
are 3 types of fields:
1) numeric fields in which only numbers can be entered,
example: 05/05/1990 contains three numeric fields;
2) alphanumeric fields, for instance a name or comment or a
filename;
3) fields which only accept a limited choice of characters,
for example: Y for yes, N for no, M for male, F for female.
Page of fields: a group of fields between which you can move
without confirming the input data. It is possible to have
several pages on the screen.
1.3 Use of the keyboard
The <ENTER> key confirms the selection of a menu option or
confirms the input in a field.
The <ESC> key allows you to leave where you are in case of
error.
The down arrow takes you to a sub-menu.
The up arrow takes you back to the previous option.
The right arrow takes you to the next option.
Astromart User's Manual page 6
The left arrow takes you to the preceding option.
<HOME> takes you to the first option.
<END> takes you to the last option.
<PAGE DOWN> takes you to the next menu page, if there is one;
if this is not the case, it confirms everything.
<F2> immediately saves the main chart, and thus has
the same function as the SAVE option in the FILE
menu. A dialog window asks for confirmation
before saving the chart.
<F3> has the same effect as the LOAD option in the
FILE menu.
<F4> has the same effect as the NEW option in the
CHART menu.
<F5> has the same effect as the ASPECTS option in the
CHART menu.
<F6> has the same effect as the GRAPH option in the
CHART menu.
<F7> has the same effect as the ANALYSIS option in the
CHART menu.
In the input fields
In all the input fields the arrows have the following
functions:
The down arrow takes you to the next field.
The up arrow takes you to the previous field.
The right arrow takes you to the next character in a field.
The left arrow takes you to the previous character in a field.
<HOME> takes you to the first character in a field.
<END> takes you to the last character in a field.
<PAGE DOWN> takes you to the next field page, if there is
one; if this is not the case, it confirms
everything.
The backspace key <-- (left arrow delete key) deletes towards
the left, and the delete key <DEL> deletes where the cursor is
positioned.
In the numeric input fields, the + and - keys add or
subtract 1, which is useful for the times and dates of birth.
Astromart User's Manual page 7
III. COMMANDS
1. FILE
1.1 Load
The LOAD option in the FILE menu allows you to select the
desired chart in the chart file. It is possible to select
another chart file in the CHART FILE option in the OPTIONS
menu.
1.2 Save
The SAVE option in the FILE menu saves the main chart in the
chart file.
It is possible to select another chart file in the CHART FILE
option in the OPTIONS menu.
1.3 Delete
The DELETE option in the FILE menu deletes a chart from the
chart file. The chart must have been saved in the file. The
deleted file remains the main chart.
The program asks you "Do you want to delete this chart?, Y/N".
If you type Y the chart will be deleted. Make sure that the
chart which appears is the one you wish to delete before you
type Y.
1.4 Modify
The MODIFY option in the FILE menu allows you to modify a
chart in the chart file. The chart must have been saved in
the file. The modified chart remains the main chart.
1.5 Redo index
The REDO INDEX option in the FILE menu puts the file back into
alphabetical order. It is only useful when a modification has
been made, followed by the stopping of the program. In this
case, the modification has not been lost but does not appear
without using this command first.
1.6 Information
The INFORMATION option in the FILE menu displays information
concerning your disk(ette) and your computer.
CURRENT PATH indicates the directory where the program is
situated.
FILE USED indicates the access path and the chart file name.
DISK CAPACITY and FREE ON DISK indicate the total capacity and
the free space on the disk(ette) used to store the charts.
People who use a computer without a hard disk must see that
enough disk space is available.
Astromart User's Manual page 8
MEMORY AVAILABLE indicates how much memory is currently
available in the central unit. Loading resident programs can
reduce this quantity to an amount insufficient for AstroMart
to function correctly.
STANDARD QUALITY gives the quality of printing .
Finally, the type of printer with its graphics mode and the
display mode are indicated.
1.7 Quit
The QUIT option in the FILE menu allows you to leave the
program.
You should always use this option to quit the program. This
option saves all the parameters that you have specified and
the index, before leaving the program.
If you do not use this option to quit the program you must use
the REDO INDEX command the next time you use the program.
Astromart User's Manual page 9
2. CHART
Select the desired option by using the arrows and the <ENTER>
key.
2.1 New
The NEW option in the CHART menu is used to input a new chart.
This new chart becomes the main chart.
You type the family name and first name of your subject and
possibly a comment.
You type the sex of your subject, M for a man and F for a
woman.
The birthplace written in the CITY menu is displayed
automatically. If it is the desired town press <ENTER>, and
you will have the coordinates. If you want another town, type
in the first two or three letters of the desired town and
press <ENTER>, which should be enough to find it. The list of
towns commencing with the letters input are displayed in the
right window. Select a town with the arrows and press
<ENTER>, or select NEW TOWN if the required town is not in the
town file.
Entering a new town
Complete the name of the town.
Enter the telephone code for the country (England = 44,
refer to the appendix) and the time adjustment for other
countries (this is not always necessary, as the program has
a file of time adjustments for most countries).
Type the latitude, beginning by indicating North by "N" and
South by "S". Then, the exact latitude. Do the same for
the longitude, first writing "W" for West and "E" for East.
Then, the exact longitude. (Latitudes and longitudes can
be found in an atlas).
The date and time are displayed on your screen. To change
them, use the + and the - keys. You can also rewrite the date
and time of your choice. Press <ENTER> and the time
adjustment is displayed if this adjustment is in the time
file. If not, you must enter this adjustment. Next, the
astral information for your subject's time of birth are
displayed.
2.2 Aspects
The ASPECTS option in the CHART menu displays the chart's
aspects, their orbs and indicative values of these aspects.
The values give indications of the worth of the aspects. They
take into account the orb, the type of aspect and the planets.
Astromart User's Manual page 10
The specification of the orb values and the selection between
the major aspects and all the aspects is done in the ASPECTS
ORBS option in the OPTIONS menu. A change of orbs has an
effect on the displayed values.
2.3 Graph
If you select the GRAPH option in the CHART menu, a graph of
the main chart is displayed.
The specification of the orb values and the selection between
the major aspects and all the aspects is done in the ASPECTS
ORBS option in the OPTIONS menu. A change of orbs has an
effect on the displayed values.
2.4 Analysis
The ANALYSIS option in the CHART menu displays a complete
analysis of the chart with the planets in the signs, the
planets for the houses and the aspects of the planets. The
display pauses every 15 lines. Press any key to continue the
display, or <ESC> to return to the main menu.
2.5 Clock
The CLOCK option in the CHART menu displays a window which
allows you to input the date and time desired, and the time
interval STEP for advancing the display. The date and time of
the main chart are displayed by default.
After having confirmed them with <ENTER> or <PAGE DOWN>, CLOCK
displays the graph for the selected date and time and advances
the graph each time by the number of hours/minutes input in
the STEP field. If you wish a pause in the display, press any
key. <ESC> leaves the option.
Astromart User's Manual page 11
3. PRINT
If you select the PRINT option, a sub-menu is displayed.
3.1 Chart - Aspects

and the aspects of the chart with their orbs and the
indicative values of these aspects. The values give the worth
of the aspects. They take into account the orb, the type of
aspect and the planets.
The specification of the values of the orbs and the selection
between the major aspects and all the aspects are made in the
OPTIONS/ASPECTS ORBS. A change of the orbs has an effect on
the values.
3.2 Graph
The CHART option in the PRINT menu prints a graphic
representation of the main chart.
The specification of the values of the orbs and the selection
between the major aspects and all the aspects are made in the
OPTIONS/ASPECTS ORBS. A change of the orbs has an effect on
the values.
Make sure you have selected the right printer in the PRINTER
option in the OPTIONS menu.
3.3 Analysis
The ANALYSIS option in the PRINT menu prints a complete
analysis of the chart with the planets in the signs, the
planets in the houses and the aspects of the planets.
3.4 Eject page
The EJECT PAGE option in the PRINT menu ejects the page from
your printer.
3.5 All
The ALL option in the PRINT menu prints the chart, the
aspects, the graph and the analysis.
Astromart User's Manual page 12
4. OPTIONS
4.1 Aspects orbs
This option gives you the choice between the major aspects and
all the aspects, that is to say major and minor, which you
desire for studying an astral chart.
An input page then appears for the modification of the orbs of
the aspects. Changing the orbs has an influence on the values
calculated for the aspects.
4.2 Graphics
Zoom
This option modifies the size of the graphic representations
on the screen and on the printer.
Colour/Black and white
This options lets you select a colour palette appropriate for
screens which display colours as shades of grey.
Letters/Symbols
This option chooses the graphic display of the signs and
planets by abbreviations or by symbols.
Begin graph
This options selects the beginning point for the daisy-wheel
graphs. The graph can start at the rising sign or zero degree
in Aries.
Display mode
This option lets you select the type and mode of graphic
display. The program selects the mode which gives the highest
resolution; this can suppress the colours. To have a colour
display, select a lower resolution.
Some graphic adapters are not recognized automatically, and
you must tell the program to use them (EGA for VGA, etc.).
4.3 Chart file
This option allows you to change the current chart file, and
thus to use several chart files. The program displays all the
existing files in the current directory. The name must have
no more than 8 letters. If the name you enter does not exist
a new file will be created.
4.4 Margins - page
This option allows you to choose between standard font and the
letter quality font.
Then you specify the margins and the page length and width.
Astromart User's Manual page 13
The left and right margins and the page width are in standard
10 cpi characters. The top margin and the page length are in
1/6" printable lines. Some printers cannot print on the whole
page, and thus there are default top and bottom margins of 3
or 4 lines. For A4 letter stationery in such printers, the
appropriate value for the page length is: 70-2*3 = 64 (maybe
63 or 62).
4.5 Place
This option allows you to enter the name of the town used by
default for new charts, as well as its coordinates. This data
will appear in all new charts. Most of your subjects will be
born in this town or its surroundings; this will avoid having
to write it each time.
4.6 Text colours
This option allows you to select the text colours if you have
a colour screen, or to select inverse, underlined or blinking
text for monochrome screens.
4.7 Printer
Printer
This option allows you to select from a list the printer that
you use. If your printer is not mentioned, try one of the
first IBM or Epson generic printers.
4.8 Reset options
The RESET OPTIONS option restores all the options to their
default state.
